The Big One…..Chapter 82…..Conclusion

Kevin Cross and his lovely life partner Amber Gershwin were also married the next spring before Rem Josephus and Donna Case departed for Rem’s home valley. Not long after that a number of babies were born on the valley farm and other people began to arrive and settle in the valley. One such young lady was a girl named Rachelle Collins whom Tyler Gorbel had eyes for but did not have the guts to approach. Yes Tyler had settled in nicely on the farm since being brought there by Vooch. Speaking of our good space worm friend, he always looked after young Tyler even when the youngster did not know it. In fact on one fine summers day while Rachelle lay down at the other end of the meadow sunning herself, Tyler was crouched in a stand of trees nearby trying to get a look at her. Vooch observed all of this and decided it was time to pick a mate for this young fellow. On his home planet a care taker routinely chose a mate for another by simply picking the one they cared for up and dropping them on top of the chosen one and he did exactly that much to the utter shock and horror of both Rachelle and Tyler. Vooch did not stick around to see the results because he was sure they would be fine. He was correct in the long term but the immediate result was rather rough on young Tyler as a horrified Rachelle let out a scream, leaping to her feet  punching him in the head. With the passing of time however the two fell in love and had children who were born to a loving family and a guardian from out of this world who would always watch over them.

There is one other order of business concerning the liberation of Diego Island and how it’s inhabitants would speak forever of a worm like creature from out of this world who had delivered them. The evil forces of Anson Gorbel would live on through Egor Vrolev who had taken control of the four remaining fortresses upon Gorbel’s death. They would proceed with great caution under Vrolev but would always try to conquer and control. Sanford Adams was the agent Gorbel had left in control of Diego Island and being a very brutal and controlling sociopath had mudered and rapped his way to most evil person in the minds of the islands innocent people. Andrea Alder was a beautiful young lady whom Adams had forced to be his girl friend and would regularly beat the poor lady senseless. On the day Vooch arrived he witnessed a drunken Adams drag Andrea from the house they were living in to the out house door. Diego island had lost all indoor plumbing in the quake and were still relying on out houses as toilets. After beating her to a bloody pulp she was left lying out side the door as Adams went into the out house to urinate. Vooch knew what he would do as Adams sat down on the toilet snatching up a magazine to read. All Andrea heard through the door was an echoing scream that sounded like Sanford Adams had dropped into a deep canyon. Coming to her senses following the beating she had taken, Andrea pulled open the out house door to find nothing but a deep black bottomless hole. Nothing was left between those four walls and her tormentor Sanford Adams was gone.

Vooch performed a similar task when disposing of the body of scientist Fred Casper. Dave Rippley and his girlfriend Loraine went down stairs to a vast cavern. The basement of the farm house was no more and eventually a new one was built as the current dwelling collapsed into the hole.

There is a lovely sunset on the close of this story as dusk descends upon the valley farm. It was a day like any other but on a ledge in the next valley an old creature stares skyward observing something only he can behold. Under the floor boards of a remote cabin where the console of Fred Casper was hidden it too comes to life seemingly on it’s own in response to a signal. For from a distant galaxy there approaches a group of alien ships on a mission to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. The remnants of some old ships with technology, a console with creatures and reclaim them they did all except one lone stubborn self willed worm who had chosen to stay on this earth amongst humanity. So it is that I will not say the end for we will see him again some day soon.

The Big One……Chapter 81

Abe Yoder and Anna were very happy when little Emily was returned to them from her captivity by Fred Casper. Now that Casper was gone they would also get their gold mine back and continue with plans to establish trade with the people of Diego Island or any other remaining large populations that would be willing to do business. Rem Josephus had agreed to perform a marriage ceremony and would do so before he and Donna Case departed. The hillbilly wished to return to his home valley in the mountains not too far away and since he and Donna had fallen in love, she would be going with him. Emily of course would be the flower girl and they had already made a wonderful dress for her. Loraine and Dave Rippley would have their wedding a couple of days after that. This would take place in the coming spring and everyone would be there. Perhaps an unexpected guest that no one ever expected could make an appearance if he was of a mind to do so. You should know by now whom that would be as he has surely become a part of us all. We shall discuss him more in the final closing chapter of this story. I am rather aware of the place Vooch has found in the hearts of my readers.

The Big One……Chapter 80

Dave Rippley  had watched Fred Casper leave with an escort of those horrible six legged creatures. His hand still held the gun inside the right coat pocket. This Casper scientist had started out as one of them and had become a nemesis to  everyone. It is funny how a man could start off with a great career so full of good intentions and then go astray in such a short time. This Special New Signal Directive Technology had made an animal out of Fred. It was literally like Dave did not even know the man anymore. The final straw for Rippley was when little Emily had been abducted. Abe and Anna’s gold mine being stolen from them was a great transgression in Dave’s eyes but taking Emily was way too much. Gorbel was a very evil man and now it seemed Casper had become the very thing he was fighting. There was a shout from the near slope where Donna and Loraine had been talking. Looking up Rippley saw the creatures dragging a seemingly drunk Fred Casper to the back door steps of the farm house. They waited there while Fred dragged himself inside as  everyone looked on in disbelief. Dave felt a quiver of excitement go through him as he listened to the banging sound of Casper’s drunk body falling down the basement steps. If there ever was a time to take care of Casper it was now. Moving towards the farm house steps Dave froze for the creatures still stood guard. No one would be able to enter the house now until Fred allowed it. A feeling of discouragement washed over the youngster. This scientist seemed to thwart their efforts at every turn. Dave grew tired of waiting over the next hour and had just turned heading to the barn when a huge rumble from the next valley shook the earth sending a massive plume of smoke and dust into the air. Right about that same time the creatures toke off in that same direction. Rippley was surprised but knew his time had arrived. Running into the house while everyone stared in the direction of Gorbels fortress mountain, Dave went down the basement stairs as quietly as possible. Casper’s door was wide open and Dave could hear muffled cursing and swearing coming from the room. Peering inside Dave saw the scientist hunched over his console very upset. It seemed he had lost control of the creatures. Dave knew what must be done regardless and all in one motion aimed and fired his gun sending Caspers head with it’s contents all over the wall.

Rem Josephus had often spoken of a remote valley not far away where there was a large cabin. It did not take the youngster long to collect the console with all it’s trappings including a case with many devices in it. With the people still gathered outside wondering about what had just happened in the next valley he was able to slip away. It toke him a couple hours to reach this remote cabin and entering the building could tell no one had been there for a long time. Prying a couple floor boards up the youngster hid the technology there and headed back. Vooch saw all of this and kindly disposed of the scientists body.

The Big One…..Chapter 79

Anson Gorbel felt more confident than he had ever been in his entire life. His scientists had found traces of hair and other DNA belonging to this space worm that had stopped him from killing his nephew. The other reason was that he was able to kill many people after all some fifteen hundred or more including their leader and her son. This was like a natural high to such an evil person and just when things could not get any happier for this wicked man a message arrived. It was from his partner Egor Vrolev notifying him of  surveillance footage that had discovered a secret place where scientist Fred Casper had hidden a little girl. Gorbel felt there must be some good reason Fred would do such a thing so off he went accompanied by two agents to take a look.

Vooch was a creature full of surprises at times but today would pretty much top them all. He was just about done creating the sink hole over a thousand feet deep below Gorbel’s fortress mountain. He then went to get Tyler Gorbel who still lived in the little cabin overlooking what used to be the valley settlement. When I say he went to get him that is literally what Vooch did. Surfacing right beside the youngster while he sat on a bench outside the cabin the creature toke him by the leg dragging him off once again kicking and screaming.

“What the hell are you doing to me now”, screamed young Tyler?

Vooch simply kept going until they were just in view of the valley farm. That is when he let go of the lad who stood up brushing himself off. It did not take much for Tyler to understand that this was where Vooch wanted him. He was however hesitant due to the fact that these folks were complete strangers to him.

Sensing his hesitation Vooch once again toke hold of his leg and Tyler instantly gave in

” Okay okay  I don’t need you to drag me everywhere, I’m going”.

Vooch watched him go knowing he would be okay, my these humans sure could be some stubborn at times.

It was now time for the ultimate trick of this fine day and perhaps for all times. No one knew of yet another capability mister Vooch possessed and this was one to beat all. His breed was the only  one with capability to manipulate Special New Signal Directive remotely. This means that he could instantly take control of all Fred Casper’s creatures when ever he wanted. These alien life forms never tried to mess with Vooch for a reason and it is because they literally felt his power. All of this would be brought to bare this very day on the dark , evil and murderous Anson Gorbel.

Anson approached the little encloser that held Emily with the casual stride of a school boy. His world seemed great this fine day with what he felt were many accomplishments behind him. Just rewards for all his evil works was repaid in one dreadful heartbeat as a massive roar shock the earth. Turning to look behind them Gorbel and his two agents watched as the entire fortress mountain dropped into the bowels of the earth sending a massive plume of dust and smoke skyward. Fred Casper watched all this including what happened next from behind his console completely powerless.

Gorbel’s personal end came as he stood there with his mouth wide open beholding the great spectacle that ended his prized fortress. That is why he never noticed the ground under his feet heave up throwing him into the air. It would be pointless to surmise what actually killed this tyrant. There was a very long and sharp needle from a flying porcupine type creature that shot into his stomach. The tremor toad showed up to barf thick green substance all over him while he was still in the air. One of the six legged creatures ripped a hole in the left hip while Anson was on his way to the ground. All of these things really don’t matter because by the time what was left of this very dark individual hit ground, he was nothing but dust. As his soul departed this world following an existence of such violence and evil, he was certainly not square with the house!

With all of this noise and goings on no one heard the report of a hand gun from the valley farm basement. But just like that all in one day the people had a fresh start.

Little Emily was returned to the valley farm that very day. Vooch ? Well he had other business.

The Big One……….Chapter 78

Fred Casper sat at his desk constantly trying to find a way to capture this bastard space worm he had released into nature thus cursing his own life. Vooch had been  more than a pain in the ass and Casper  was making it his number one priority to recapture him. Turning his head away from the screen to let out a sneeze, Casper could not believe his eyes when they focused once again. Vooch was the only known creature with ability to make himself invisible to Casper’s Special New Signal Directive console yet here he was on the screen laid out on what appeared to be a plateau not far from the valley, actually right next to Gorbel’s fortress mountain. Fred was so excited that his hands trembled as he instructed a number of his six legged creatures to meet him near the back door of the farm house. Grabbing his jacket he then ran out side to meet them wondering all the while what had suddenly made Vooch visible.

There was a very good reason as to why this ancient space worm was now detectable to Fred Casper’s console. Vooch had a very complicated and powerful biological make up. There was no creature in over a thousand solar systems that had anything close to what his kind possessed. Although he was able to make himself invisible to any system, he was capable of being influenced by certain substances that would weaken his system thus making him more vulnerable. Vooch had paid a visit to that old brewery and upon burrowing through the bottom of a large vessel filled with beer had ingested huge amounts of the substance. He had an intestinal track that could handle some very nasty things but had never drank alcohol before let alone been drunk. Both of these things happened instantly leaving the poor creature wondering what had hit him. His head felt very fuzzy and thoughts of paying folks a very jolly visit passed through his mind. He suddenly wished he was back on his home planet so he could chase a few females of his own kind around. He also felt very giddy and brave beyond all reality with a bad case of the munchies. Trying now to move about he smacked face first into a tree falling over and laying there feeling the whole situation to suddenly be very funny. In fact pretty much everything seemed funny right about now. That was when his foggy gaze fell upon Casper. The creatures with him were moving backwards wanting nothing to do with Vooch. This did not bother Vooch  as he felt it no problem to pretty much kick the crap out of the whole galaxy right now. Or maybe he would treat them to more of the awesome liquid he had just drank. He had no clue what it was but felt rather thirsty for more.

There were many things Fred Casper did not know about Vooch . One such thing was that his internal substance was very potent and when he let out any sort of gas or air which he rarely did, anyone within about twenty feet would be totally intoxicated by it. This is why when Vooch raised his head and in his drunken state let out a huge belch Fred Casper was not only thrown backwards onto the ground but heavily intoxicated by the alcohol in the space worms system. All he could do was lay there trying to rise from time to time ,slurring all words he tried to pronounce. He finally managed to shout out a loud proclamation as Vooch  dove beneath the earth to start creating a sink hole bellow Gorbel’s fortress.

“VOOCH you over grown pain in the ass space maggot.”

The six legged creatures literally had to drag Casper back to the farm house.

The Big One……Chapter 77

Kevin Cross was a very tender plant when it came to matters of emotion brought on by situations of great stress. This is why both he and the love of his life Amber Gershwin were feeling so badly of late. It had been these two that had been taking care of young Emily when she had gone missing. Following an extended period of searching for the girl they had grown tired and despondent returning home for a rest and to discuss what to do next. Sitting in the barn area chatting with Rem Josephus seemed to make Kevin feel better for now and so Amber went off to the house to rest and make something to eat for everyone. She casually noticed Fred Casper heading out the back door to walk towards the valley rim with an escort of those disgusting creatures. It was not until some time later when she heard the panicked shouts of Abe and Anna that she knew something had happened. The two came bolting through the back door into the kitchen talking loudly about Casper being drunk and a large space worm that let out a large toxic burp. These things did not make much sense at the out set. Giving the happenings in the last couple of weeks however , everyone was smart enough to know that a little time was all one needed to bring about perfect understanding of brand new things.

Meanwhile out on yonder plateau where mister Casper lay extremely inebriated, there was a new development as Vooch plunged deep into the earth to create the largest sink hole he had ever done. One the would be some one thousand feet deep below the earths surface and when it was done would totally  swallow Gorbel’s fortress mountain.

The Big One………..Chapter 76

Abe Yoder and Anna were in deep sorrow following the disappearance of their sweet little adopted daughter Emily. There was no desire to either sleep or eat and they never stopped searching for the little girl or calling her name. There was no concern for their own safety because the only desire was to see little Emily again and hold her close. It was as they headed for the outer rim of the valley that Fred Casper came into site accompanied by those ugly creatures. The two said nothing to one another but simply kept their distance while following him out of the valley. It was not until climbing the opposite slope and coming to a large plateau that they saw what Casper was after. Laying on the ground was what appeared to be that huge worm the two had seen some time ago at the gold mine. The six legged creatures stopped and refused to go any closer not wanting anything to do with this worm. Fred Casper was the only one to go near and that was when the worm like creature raised it’s head letting out the loudest belch like sound that sent the scientist backwards onto the ground. Casper lay there for a while and then began to make an attempt to rise and could not. He seemed to thrash around like a drunk and his attempts to speak were slurred.

“My God said Abe, is he drunk”?

The Big One Chapter….75

Dave Rippley knew now more than ever what he must do very soon. After little Emily had been taken there had been a an outburst of emotion on the valley farm that had sent search parties far and wide coming up with nothing. There was no foot prints to be found or articles of clothing. Dave had participated in this endeavor but had known all along that the very person responsible for this evil was likely crouched over his console in the farm house basement planning his next move. Anson Gorbel was a militant tyrant but this scientist had become very powerful with this space technology and was now slowly taking control of their lives and likely the entire world. This would occur once he had disposed of Gorbel but maybe the two would join forces. The youngster felt confident that he would get a chance to take Casper out but would likely have to wait until Anson and his band of agents had been killed or neutralised some how. Leaning against the barn door Dave felt in his coat pocket for the fifty seven magnum with two extra clips of bullets. He kept these for any danger that may arise including the chance he may get some day to take out mister Casper. Rippley listened now to a conversation between Rem Josephus and Kevin Cross about trying to find little Emily and the sound of an explosion that had happened a couple of days back. Abe and Anna had also had a stand off with two of Casper’s creatures and everyone was feeling very boxed in now by these space beasts.

There was a creaking noise as the back porch door of the farm house opened and Fred Casper came bounding out to head up the ridge. Rippley thought this may be a good time to follow and take out the scientist but two things stopped him dead in his tracks. One was the thought that Anson Gorbel must first be stopped. The second was that Casper had an escort of five six legged creatures about him. This was now another factor to consider, Fred Casper knew he was no longer safe on the valley farm hence a chance to take him out could be much harder than young Rippley ever imagined.

The Big One Chapter…..74

Anson Gorbel felt like a kid in a candy store for a number of reasons. First was that he had his scientists hunting for biological clues regarding that huge space worm that had stopped him from killing his nephew Tyler. The second element to his giddy happiness was that on this very day they would attack the valley settlement that contained some fifteen hundred people and wipe them out. This would leave their female leader who probably knew about that scientist Fred Casper on the valley farm and she would have no choice but to spill it.

Vooch was very bored but felt for some reason that he must watch Tyler Gorbel who seemed to have settled in nicely. His friend Tristin had gone down to the village bucket in hand and was about to come back up. Vooch saw many things with his third eye and that was what saved young Tyler in the nick of time. The space worm saw the missile and drone all at once and shot under ground in a blur of speed snatching young Tyler who stood near the cabin door shouting to his friend who had just began to ascend the hill. Vooch caught the youngster by his leg dragging him off quickly into the bushes away from the cabin where he lived and town that would soon be gone. The lad was in utter shock and simply thrashed about as the creature dragged him along but soon began to scream and shout in alarm. Vooch barley had the boy into the thick brush when there was a loud swooshing noise followed by a heavy explosion that shock the entire mountain obliterating the valley settlement.

The village leader Belinda Grace was the only one home in her cabin above the valley settlement when the missile struck. She was hurled across the kitchen against the opposite wall and lay there stunned after impact. Her first concern was for her son Tristan who had gone down to the village for some cooking supplies. She also worried about her new adopted son Tyler who was near by running an errand. Struggling to her feet she stumbled to the door trying to clear away the persistent ringing noise that trauma can bring to ones ears. Upon opening the door she could hear approaching helicopters but one look down the trail made her freeze in horror. Dragging himself along with both hands was her son Tristan  his legs blown off and hair matted in debris, blood poring from what remained of two ears. Belinda trembled in disbelief clasping hands over her mouth wanting try cry out in unbelievable inner agony. Gorbel and four of his operatives came up through the smoky trail behind her son’s sprawled body and she had never seen such evil eyes like those of Anson Gorbel’s. He simply looked at Tristan’s sprawled bloody body and spoke casually as if appraising a ball game that had just ended.

“So this nice little hamlet in the mountains comes to an end in one terrible day no?! I mean there really seems to be nothing left down below and this son of yours seems about ready to cash in his chips at any moment”.

Anson was a veteran of many armed conflicts and was a master of psychology who could read people very well. That is why it only toke one look into the eyes of this wonderful yet heart broken woman to see that she would never help him no matter what he did. That dark and sadistic rage boiled up inside Gorbel while he pulled his gun walking casually over to Tristan.

“Well I hope since your off spring is about to cash in his chips that he is square with the house”!

Anson’s gun roared and young Tristan’s body lay lifeless. Belinda gasped in unbelievable agony and turned away seemly caught up in a sweet melody that her grand mother used to sing. It brought a wonderful and sudden blanket of peace over her soul that embraced her from the cruel agony of her situation helping her rise above. She too hummed that melody fully embracing it until Gorbel’s next bullet toke her life as well and she was once again with Tristan and her loved ones.

Vooch saw all of this and was having a time of his own with Tyler who lay there in the coils of this space worm crying. The creature watched this in utter awe for he had never beheld something so lovely. There was a wonderful soul of beauty in this young human that touched him to his very core. Vooch had a life span expectancy of about fifteen hundred human years. He was now about four hundred and fifty years of age and had lived in two different galaxies. The planet he had come from had three suns and seven moons. There were nights when earth would be in line with his home galaxy and he could look towards his home dreaming of days gone past. He knew that some day soon the ships would find their lost technology and come reclaim it. He however upon beholding the beauty and soul that could exist in humanity, more importantly this boy had decided to stay on planet earth.

Looking down now at Tyler he was met by the tear filled gaze of this youngster who raised his hand to touch Vooch’s head while he spoke in a heart broken voice.

“I want to thank you for saving me twice now because there is no doubt in my heart that I would be dead if it wasn’t for you”.

Vooch felt a warmth in his heart for this boy he had never experienced in his whole life. Lifting the lad to his feet he toke him back to the cabin that was still intact following the explosion. Gorbel and his agents had searched the cabin and were now long gone. The creature helped Tyler bury his two friends and stayed with him for a day or so. Vooch was aware of what Casper had done in the other valley and so taking the lad to the valley farm would be out of the question for now. He would first go visit that brewery he had wanted to explore for some time and then deal with that evil Gorbel. After that he would see to  Casper who was now showing a mentality similar to that of Gorbel. All these things would be seen to with full retribution very shortly.

The Big One Chapter…….73

Fred Casper was feeling outrage when Vooch had foiled his plan to have Dave Rippley confronted by one of the creatures. Although he had not attended Rippley’s little back porch meeting Casper was well aware of what had been discussed and was not at all pleased. All Fred had wanted to do was put the fear of God in the youngster but that pain in the ass Vooch had showed up to ruin things. Since then Casper had done two things to establish control over what he felt could get out of hand. Firstly he had a few of his six legged creatures secure the gold mine originally found by Abe Yoder and little Emily. Secondly he had sort of had little Emily removed from the picture temporarily by having a couple of his creatures take her to a remote location where she could be seen to for a while. There was a sly smile on his face as he thought about these two things he had just had done. Control was key for any person with intentions of success in this brave new world. People must know who is boss and he would be such a person with control of both gold and technology. His thoughts were disturbed suddenly as a  distant explosion broke the late evening silence. It was indeed far away probably on the other side of Gorbel’s fortress mountain but it still brought Casper to his feet. The scientist stood there his mind racing wondering what that CIA fascist was up to now.
